A West Hempstead man accused of stealing pills from a Garden City Park pharmacy was arrested Tuesday, nearly a month after the crime occurred.

Kevin Arenas, 23, surrendered to Nassau County police and was charged with first-degree robbery in connection with the July 5 incident, police said.

Arenas held up the Twin Parks Pharmacy at 2226 Jericho Turnpike at knifepoint, demanding the opioid painkiller OxyContin from a pharmacist before taking off with a load of pills, police said last month.

No one was hurt in the alleged robbery, police said, but Arenas was caught on a surveillance camera during it.

A police spokesman said no drugs were recovered in connection with the robbery.

Arenas was arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead, according to online court records. It was not immediately clear on Wednesday whether he had an attorney.
