The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department extinguished a car fire in Great Neck on Sunday morning, marking the third one the department has responded to in a month, fire department officials said.

Fire officials reported no injuries, noted that car fires are “pretty common” and said that the cause of the blaze is unknown.

“Fortunately it was a Sunday morning with few cars on the road,” one fire official said. “If that were to happen during rush hour, it would create a pretty big traffic headache in the area.”

While en route to North Shore University Hospital, a Manhasset-Lakeville fire ambulance alerted a dispatcher about the fire at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Allen Drive in Great Neck.

The Fire Department’s third company, located at 25 Prospect St. in Great Neck, responded with two engine trucks and extinguished the fire.

Northern Boulevard had to be closed for about half an hour.

Deputy Chief William Mazurkiewicz, who had just responded to a previous call, arrived on the scene to confirm the fire.
