No furry friends will be allowed at the newly opened Morgan’s Dock Park, for now.

At June’s meeting of the Manorhaven Board of Trustees last Thursday, board members formally approved regulations and set fines for the park that opened last week.

Village officials said there has been controversy in the village over whether or not to allow dogs in the park but since it extends into Manorhaven Town Park, which is owned by the Town of North Hempstead and prohibits dogs, it makes sense to follow suit.

“How can we allow dogs when we lead right into Manorhaven Park,” said Trustee Rita Di Lucia.

“Let’s just start out with no dogs and see how it goes,” said Mayor Jim Avena. He said there were a number of issues when the village reopened the dog park that took some time to resolve.

“It can always be amended,” Di Lucia said.

Morgan’s Dock Park is open for public use from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Those who trespass outside of those hours can be charged a maximum fine of $1,000 or imprisoned for 15 days.

A fine of $250 will be imposed on those who park their car or dock their boat at the park overnight.

Anyone found in possession of an open container or consuming alcohol at the park will also be fined $250.

Those who are found smoking on the property, bringing pets or littering will be charged a fine of $150. Smoking includes cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes and any vaping.

The park at Morgan’s Dock is situated at the end of Orchard Beach Road and overlooks Manhasset Bay.
