Manorhaven Mayor Jim Avena was ticketed by police after crashing into a car in Port on Wednesday evening, the Port Washington Police District said.

Assistant Chief Commanding Officer Patrol Kevin McCarroll confirmed that Avena was ticketed by a member of the Port police for leaving the scene of an incident of property damage to a vehicle.

The Nassau County Police Department’s Office of Public Information could not confirm an anonymous tipster’s claim that three other cars were hit near or on Graywood Road in the Village of Manorhaven around the same time.

Calls for comment to Manorhaven Village Hall were unavailing.

McCarroll says that Avena will now have to go before Nassau County Traffic Court. The date of the appearance has not yet been determined.
