Massage Envy Spa in the Lake Success Shopping Center will be donating $10 to the Arthritis Foundation for every message given on Sept. 17 as part of a national event conducted by the message chain.
“We’re working to build some awareness and raise funds to fight this disease and to relieve the suffering people experience from it,” said John Lundgren, owner of Massage Envy in the Lake Success Shopping Center.
Lundgren said Massage Envy conducts the “Healing Hands for Arthritis” event at each of its approximately 1,000 locations each year in cooperation with the Arthritis Foundation.
Massage Envy currently has 12 locations in Nassau County.
Last year, Lundgren said, his location at 1476 Union Turnpike in New Hyde Park raised $2,000 as part of an effort that raised $1 million nationally.
Thus far, he said the massage center has scheduled 30 appointments for arthritis patients on Sept. 17.
He recommends scheduling an appointment ahead of time.
“The massage is customized to them, if they want more massaging on their knees or their shoulders, for example,” Lundgren said.
Masage Envy offers an introductory price for massages of $59 and a membership program costing $69.99 a month that allows clients a message at any of the company’s location.
Lundgren said the Massage Envy location in New Hyde Park currently has 1,600 members. All of its masseurs are licensed by New York State, he said.
Massage Envy in New Hyde Park is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
