Mineola Chiefs defeat Garden City 6-4

The 6th Grade Chiefs (Maroon) defeated a very tough Garden City on the road 6-4. With 3 players on injured reserved Mineola’s reinforcements played with all heart on Mother’s Day(IR- Phil Arnold, Alex Mayfield, Liam Gormley) This game was about Mineola’s defense. Joe Carr grabbed the rock out of the air on crease slides at least 3 time this game. 

Zach Koerber stopped ball on fast breaks while Evan Eberlein and Alex Marchiselli locked down the remaining attack men. 

The Mineola midfield was thin but tough- Matt Grimm led the midfield from all fronts by winning six of seven face offs, scoring 2 unassisted goals and 1 assist, all GO and FO! 

Defensive middie Sante Nicolia barreled through the Garden City midfield wall like a bull to feed attack man Ronan Cooney who scored a nice goal and also had 1 assist, midfielder Brian O’Neill dodged around Garden City and bounced a nice goal passed in, Tristan Gilbert, Michael Cardinal and Joey Gonzalez ran a very tough midfield all day long which was key in holding Garden City. 

Attack man Ryan Dailey scored on a hard bounce shot, wounded warrior Jack Duff with a sore ankle had 1 goal and 2 assists while Vincent Aidala and Nick Rusciano both made precise passes from the X position. Mineola goalie Matt O’Connell made a kick save off the shin and had nice clears today. 

Second half Mineola goalie Sean “Hemi” Hembach stopped shot after shot from Garden City to lead Mineola to its sixth straight victory!
