The 4th Annual Mineola Street fair will be held in downtown Mineola on Sunday, Sept. 30 with the Mineola High School Marching Band providing a hometown feel to the event.

The fair, sponsored by the Mineola Chamber of Commerce, runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., along 2nd Street, Main Street and two blocks of Mineola Boulevard.

The annual fair will feature a variety of scheduled presentations and musical performances throughout the day, including two stages including a Zumba demonstration, pottery demonstration and performance by Dance Dynamics.

Participating restaurants will include Vinoco, Andiamo, Eleanor Rigby’s, Second Street Deli, PS Burgers, Vito’s Bakery and Michelangelo’s Pizzeria.

Tony Lubrano, first vice president for the Mineola Chamber of Commerce and owner of Piccola Bussola Restaurant, said the chamber expected this year’s to be a more successful event than it was last year.

“We’re doing considerably better each year, we’ve had our residents show quite a bit of interest in the fair and we’re hoping to stick to the original date this year,” Lubrano said.

The attendance was three times greater than they had seen it at any prior street fair. Last year marked the second time that the fair was staged in downtown Mineola.

The success of the first street fair located there in 2009 convinced the chamber to change the venue from Mineola Memorial Park, where it had traditionally been held.

In 2011, the fair was delayed due to rain which took a significant toll on the vendors.

Bill Greene, president of the Mineola Chamber of Commerce, said:  “Our three past street fairs were all overwhelmingly successful. One merchant reported having his best sales ever that day. The fair will be open to all businesses in town.”

Other features will be face painting for kids, pumpkin painting, a vintage car show, food from various Mineola restaurants and other attractions.

“Our goal is to create a day full of fun and excitement for the entire family, along with showcasing the many fine businesses in Mineola,” Greene said.

The rain date is Sunday, October 14.
