The final phase of National Grid’s work on the northern Long Island Expressway service road in Old Westbury begins this week, with some right-lane closures during the day as well as full road closures at night.
Old Westbury trustees approved the second phase of the Northwest Nassau Natural Gas Reliability Project, which Village Administrator Brian Ridgway said will connect the recently installed new gas main to the existing gas main.
The new main was installed last year from Pinetree Lane in Old Westbury through East Hills to Jefferson Avenue in Roslyn Heights to help bring natural gas to all residents in the area.
Beginning this week, the right lane of the north service road, also known as Store Hill Road, will be closed from about 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. for equipment installations and pre-fabrication welding before closing the entire road between Pinetree Lane and Red Ground Road from about 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Ridgway said the bulk of the construction, including installing the underground vaults to connect to the main, will be just west of Red Ground Road.
Ridgway said the work is expected to be finished in November, and the village website will be updated with information from National Grid about the progress.
In other business, a presentation by Peter Cinquemani with Emilio Susa Architect Inc. of Jericho to reconstruct a dormitory home that burned down at Glen Oaks Club was continued until Nassau County can approve the plans.
The Old Westbury Planning Board has approved the plans.
Cinquemani said the residential structure is planned to house eight bedrooms across its two floors, doubling the number of bedrooms from the house that burned down in August and is planned for approximately 4,008 square feet.
The dorm is planned for about 75 feet from the road while the previous structure was about 52 feet from Post Road.
Trustees also approved the Westbury Times as the village’s official newspaper though trustees Leslie Fastenberg and Cory Baker pushed during the meeting to continue the discussion until the August meeting and possibly change the official newspaper to the Roslyn Times.
