New Hyde Park Top Soccer readies for final

New Hyde Park

Wildcats Top Soccer

Next week will be New Hyde Park Wildcats Top Soccer’s last practice for the Fall Season on Nov.16.  Like always, it will end with a Players vs. Parents match.  As many of our followers are aware, the Parents have yet to win a match against the athletes.  The Parents are hoping that this will be their lucky season and the athletes wish them the best of luck.

Juniors/Intermediates

Red Wildcats 5, Green Frogs 4.

The Juniors and Intermediates combined forces on a cold fall day.  The Wildcats jumped out ahead with quick goals by Stephen DiBiasi.  The Wildcats had some great passing between Josh Hom, Sophocles Gianakis and Stephen DiBiasi.

The Green Frogs had a tough time scoring against Wildcats goalie Stephen Johnson, who attacked and blocked each shot.  Finally, as Stephen was slowing fatiguing, Luke Swartz scored two goals for the Green Frogs.  The game was finally tied.  The Wildcats’ David Cheung, however, had two brilliant breakaways and scored to put his team up by two goals.

The Green Frogs counterattacked with midfielders James Sarro and John Bertuccio, who tied the game up.  The Green Frog’s Alex Laroia, Jesse Sarro and Kyle Hanratty continued to play tough defense, but Sophocles Gianakis connected near the goal and put the winning one in for the Red Wildcats.  Nicolas Krieger, Kyle and Jaydon Marquardt played well for the Red Wildcats.  It was a thoroughly enjoyable and exhausting game for both teams.

Seniors

Seniors 3, Coaches 3.

In preparation for next week’s game against the parents, the Seniors challenged the coaches to a game. Coach Rich Bletsch scored two goals followed by one goal from Stan Yang.  David Glass kept the Senior team in the match with a brilliant goal followed by Sam Ho.

Debbie Chin stopped Coach Kevin Oster from scoring several times and then Debbie had a breakaway and tied the game.

Andrew and Michael Rail supported their team as midfielders. Sebastian Gonzalez and Tim Roth had some excellent opportunities to score, but at the end of regulation time, the score was tied 3-3.  The referee sent the teams to a shootout.  Even though the coaches did put a few shots past goalie Sebastian Garcia, he was still too strong for the coaches.  The Players outplayed the Coaches in the shootout and won the match.  Sammy Duggan remarked as all were leaving the field, “Watch out parents, we are ready.”

On Nov. 10, 27 of our Top athletes, their families and coaches attended the annual Awards Luncheon at the Huntington Hilton.  As in the past, the players and families had a great time.

After the meal, the athletes received team photos and trophies for a well-played season.  Many players renewed their friendships with athletes and coaches from other clubs.  It was a pleasant afternoon for all as they enjoyed the event and camaraderie.
