The NHPLL Girls Juniors Softball Team won two District 29 Doubleheaders this past weekend with victories over Malverne and Valley Stream.

On Saturday, the NHP Girls were led by the terrific pitching of Sabrina Santoruvo’s complete game, 1 hitter (6K’s) and Jillian Sakowich (6 IP, 10 K’s) for the sweep on Saturday. Kristen Hickey (4-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs) belted a towering double to the fence and Geena Fornataro (4-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs) also laced a shot into the gap to provide early offense in game one.

Jillian Sakowich set the table all day from the left side with a 3-4 performance including (3 Rs, 3 slap hits over third, and 2 RBIs). Kim Spagnuolo (3-4, 2 RBIs), Lisa Pellegrino (2-4, 2 SBs), Danielle Dziomba (2-4, double, 1 RBI), and Sabrina Spiridigliozzi (2-4, 1SBs) all had a big day at the plate.

Game 2 saw Jalissa Sanchez (3-4, 3 RBIs) and Paola Quijada (2-3, double, 4 RBIs) lead the offensive barrage. Danielle Dziomba had 3 RBIs and Kim Spagnuolo had 2 hits for NHP which also played aggressively on defense. Jillian Sakowich was dominant once again the circle going all the way for the victory.

On Sunday, the team squared off against a talented Valley Stream squad and once again, pitching set the tone early.

Lisa Pellegrino allowed just 2 hits while striking out 11 batters and clearly mastered the strike zone mixing pitches. Pellegrino, who was 2-2 at the plate with 4 SBs and 3 runs scored also showed her toughness in game 2 completing the tag at second after a bloody collision on a steal attempt. Jillian Sakowich (winning pitcher in game 2) was 6-7 on the day with 6 runs scored using a variety of well placed bunts and executing both – the soft slap and power slap as the situation dictated.

Paola Quijada had 4 hits on the day while Kerry Jones won the game ball honors with her “mad dash” triple over the right fielders head which scored 2. Danielle Dziomba had 4 hits on the day for 3 RBIs and Jillian Filippi went 2-3 in game one and followed with a 3-4 performance in game two. Sabrina Santoruvo had a 2-3 game with 2 RBIs and Elizabeth Limonta went 2-4 with 2 RBIs.
