A fire caused extensive damage to a house in Flower Hill Tuesday afternoon. Fortunately, nobody was home at the time, according to Port Washington Fire Department Chief Bryan Vogeley.
The department was contacted at 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday about a fire in the home located at 76 Drake Lane in the Manhasset section of Flower Hill. The fire was under control within an hour, and all units were packed up and released by 5:30 p.m.
“It was a heavy fire load on arrival. We got in there and we did a pretty quick job of extinguishing it,” Vogeley said. “Most of the time was spent overhauling the fire room and making sure it did not travel through the walls to the rest of the house.”
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, which were treated on the scene.
Vogeley said the cause of the fire was undetermined and was being investigated by the Nassau County fire marshal’s office. He said the fire damaged the master bedroom on the second floor, although other parts of the building suffered smoke and water damage. He said he was not able to determine if the house would be salvageable.

No. 1, the Manhasset-Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department, the Plandome Fire Department, the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company, Glenwood H & L, E & H Co., the East Norwich Fire Department, the Albertson Fire Company and the Williston Park Fire Department.
