Two lists recently released by market research and data website Niche place North Shore areas among the best places to live and raise a family in the state of New York, with areas in Great Neck topping both lists.
On the site’s “Best Places to Live in New York” list, North Shore areas comprise over a quarter of the list, with 26 areas represented. Factors taken into account when creating the rankings include quality of local schools, safety, affordability, higher education rate, cost of living grade, crime and safety grade, housing grade, family amenities, percentage of households with children, weather and air quality, walkability, and percentage of households with children, among others, according to Niche.
The Great Neck and Roslyn areas are tied for the most representation of any North Shore area on the list, with seven villages or census-designated places named each. Great Neck Plaza tops the list, and Great Neck Gardens is ranked number three.
On the “Best Places to Raise a Family in New York,” North Shore areas comprise nearly a third of the entries, with 32 areas represented. Factors considered for the rankings included cost of living grade, higher education rates, housing, quality of local schools, diversity, crime and safety, jobs, nightlife, walkability, outdoor activities, weather and short commutes, among others, according to Niche.
Again, Great Neck and Roslyn are tied as the most represented of the North Shore areas on the list, with nine villages or census-designated places named apiece. Great Neck Gardens tops the list, with the Village of Kensington ranking fourth, the New Hyde Park area of Manhasset Hills ranking fifth, and the Village of East Hills ranking sixth.
