Northwell Health opened a rehabilitation center inside the Northwell Health Ice Center at Eisenhower Park – the practice facility for the New York Islanders.

The eight staff clinicians of the STARS Rehabilitation Center will be support the Islanders’ medical team and treat members of the community with musculoskeletal or other sports injuries, according to a Northwell release.

“We are extremely excited to make our services available to the New York Islanders as it adds to our current sports partnerships, which includes Hofstra University, the New York Lizards Major League Lacrosse team and our growing relationships with area high school athletic programs,” Daniel Vaknin, vice president of Northwell Health’s Outpatient Therapy Network, said in the release. “This is one more step in establishing Northwell Health STARS Rehabilitation as a leader in sports and orthopedic outpatient therapy services.”

The development of the 4,000-square-foot physical therapy facility and the equipment in it cost about $1 million.

The center will offer sports therapy, physical therapy, orthopedic rehab, back and spine care, joint replacement therapy and fracture and trauma care.

It features the latest in rehab technology, including a wearable sensor device known as the dorsaVi Movement Suite, according to the release.

The portable motion-capture technology lets therapists better analyze human movement patterns to determine if existing deficits could lead to further injury.

“Hockey players are among the toughest athletes around, but they often need physical therapy and rehab to stay on the ice. So we are proud to offer our services to the Islanders and help their players recover from injuries,” said Michael J. Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. “While it is situated here in the Islanders practice facility, this program is open to anyone who needs sports rehab and therapy.”

STARS at Eisenhower Park is one of 13 STARS locations. It is open Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays.
