Obama failed to address poverty in debates

The Island Now

Two of my friends, they are husband and wife together, we all discussed about the last week presidential candidates’ debate. She asked me that whether ‘

1] For  the policy aspect alone, which side  are you more in  favor  of  it?

2] Does your  initial view on the  policy be changed even merely a bit only  by  the content of  debate?

3] Do you agree  with  the  policy toward  Chinese  should have been tougher  and  tougher?

4]  Do you  agree that  the wellfare policy should  have  been  more  tilted toeward solialism?

5]  Do you  agree that  the healthcare should  have  been more restricted, and  so  does  the  Abortion – control policy?

6] Do you believe the U S should have been stronger in the force balance in the Asia-Pasific region?’

My answers to them are as following:

Obama’s policy with China favors quiet negotiation despite his tough talk which, is only for domestic consumption.  China policy will be far more effective if China is viewed as a partner (as Obama sees it) than an adversary (as Romney sees it).

Obama’s welfare policy and health care policy and policies favoring access to contraception are necessary to ameliorate a broken system – all are improvements, which though are not perfect, but are better than the Republican alternatives, which would favor the wealthy few at the expense of the many poor (and uninsured).

As to this uninsured issue, it is noted that, furthermore, the elderly people living in poverty get less sleep than those in higher SES (socioeconomic status) group. This is an important societal problem, irrespective of the specific circumstance of poverty, along with regardless of the various cultural backgrounds. Examples of the influence of poverty on the elderly people can be found  in any state. This issue merits our attention as follows.

With over 47 million Americans uninsured and even more underinsured, one really cannot imagine what will take place if there not be a more serious time to find out that there is a major endemic or even epidemic disease out there which is on the rise. In fact, approximately, it is estimated that 18 million Americans suffer from obstructive sleep apnea. Unfortunately merely about  10 percent to 20 percent  of these people are aware of that they have OSA and are being treated.

The even worse situation is the fact that due to increasing number of aging population and prevailing condition of obesity, the number of people with OSA will probably increase.

It is terrifying once we imagine about those untreated sleep apneics out there! Above and beyond, the elderly people who are living in poverty have already get less sleep than those in higher SES group, which will  definitely exacerbate the already bad situation.

The aforementioned condition is merely addressed what currently in the U S.

Without mentioning the aforesaid last but not the least issue in those two debates, this appears to be entirely Obama’s ‘fault’ – it is unfortunate that Americans tend to vote based on emotion due to a poor or even lack of understanding of facts and the actual history of the policies being promoted by the different parties.

Obama was the one who allowed the issue of poverty in the elderly without being discussed, or even permitted these otherwise mentioned lies to go in the first debate unchallenged, unopposed, and unimpeded.  Shame on Obama.
