The Village of Old Westbury on Monday introduced a $13,605,811 budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year, slightly under last year’s budget of $13,682,240 but with a tax levy increase of 3.49-percent.

Village officials did not comment on increase in the tax levy, which exceeds the state-mandated tax cap.

Village Administrator Kenneth Callahan declined to comment on the tax levy.

The budget, which runs from June 1, 2014 to May 31, 2015, calls for $10,134,338 to be raised in real estate taxes, compared to $9,792,370 in the current fiscal year.

The village projects in the budget that state aid for highways will declined from $166,000 to $80,000 – a $86,000 decrease from the current fiscal year.

The amount budget for police patrol cars is expected to increase from $71,000 to $152,000 and street maintenance to increase from $155,000 to $210,000 i

Village residents Brook and Todd Deutsch raised concerns during the meeting over a 32-foot statue on their neighbor’s property.

Brook Deutsch called the statue “disturbing.”

“My children should not have to be afraid of walking down their own driveway,” she said.

Village of Old Westbury Mayor Fred Carillo said officials would research the matter,

“We will look into what we can do legally,” Carillo said.

Carillo also announced that the village auctioned off a 2005 Chevy Silverado to Arizona Beverages USA for $5,700.

“It was the highest of the three bids we received,” Carillo said.

Carillo also said the village is planning to build a 3200 square foot garage to park its trucks, in an effort to protect the village’s property.

“We didn’t have a garage to house the sweeper or the big Mac trucks,” Carillo said.
