Two young men from Plainview were arrested on assault and robbery charges in an incident that began in Plainview and ended at the Nassau County Police precinct in Williston Park.

Alexis Martinez-Benitez, 20, of Universal Boulevard and Christian Schiavone, 19, of Cherry Drive were at a parking lot with the 24-year-old victim around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, police said. Officials said they may have met only minutes before. The two alleged assailants asked the victim to drive them home, but he declined. The two then began a physical assault on the victim with a closed fist as he got into his vehicle, the police said.

The two then got into the vehicle with the victim and continued the assault as he was driving west, according to police. Schiavone allegedly ripped a necklace from the victim’s neck in the process. The victim drove to the police precinct building on Hillside Avenue at which point he ran inside and alerted officers. Police came outside and arrested both defendants. It is not known what the motive for the alleged assault was, other than the desire for a ride home, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Both face a number of charges including second-degree robbery and third-degree assault.
