The Village of Plandome Manor passed a $1.58 million budget on April 16, a figure 27 percent higher than its previous budget due to planned road work.
The new budget includes an estimated tax levy increase of $26,084. Divided among the village’s 285 homes, that represents an increase of about $91.52 per household.
Last year, the village’s budget was nearly stable, with a 3.61 percent decrease from the 2017-18 budget.
There are two major road construction projects planned in the village: one on Plandome Road and another on North Plandome Road.
To accommodate the projects, expenses for contracted engineering are up $20,000 from last year. In the previous budget, the village set aside $30,000 for engineering and is projected to only have spent about $8,000 of it.
The new budget devotes $426,782 to nonstate-funded road construction, which is up from $125,000.
Plandome Road will be repaved, likely in the fall, because of National Grid work that destroyed it, Mayor Barbara Donno said at a meeting earlier this year. The National Grid work is part of an ongoing gas main installation.
North Plandome Road will be repaved southward from Elm Sea Lane.
Garbage removal costs are up by $33,100. The village’s contract was up this year and when it went out to bid it came back with the hike, said village Clerk Randi Malman.
The $645,000 to be raised from property taxes is within the 2 percent state tax cap. Most of the remaining revenue will come from state grants and miscellaneous taxes.
“Our board is very aware of their fiduciary duty when providing our residents with the quality of services they expect in Plandome Manor,” Donno said.
She said she is excited about the road projects as well as a new initiative to implement a geographic information system to map the village.
