A pair each of Nassau County police officers and police medics assisted a Manhasset couple in delivering their baby at home Saturday morning, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

According to the department, at 7:43 a.m., the officers responded to a call for a woman in active labor on Locust Place in Manhasset.

Upon arrival, Officers Keith Owens and Stacie Torres found the woman in labor, being assisted by the baby’s father. Within a minute of the officers’ arrival, the mother delivered a baby girl into the father’s arms. He then handed the baby to Owens, who had retrieved a bulb syringe from his first aid kit to clear the baby’s airway and facilitate breathing.

Police medics Bolivar Graffeo and Dalena Tran then arrived, evaluated the mother and baby, and transported both to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset for further evaluation.

The department said the mother and child are in good health.
