Three of Port Washington’s five villages will hold elections next week, but there will be no contested races. All nine candidates are incumbents who are running for re-election to their current positions on Tuesday.

The village with the highest profile candidates is Flower Hill, where Mayor Bob McNamara and three trustees are seeking re-election.

McNamara said that he wanted to see several projects through that would improve the roads in Flower Hill.

“It takes a period of time to get some momentum going to accomplish the things you want to accomplish,” he said.

McNamara started as a trustee for the village six years ago and became mayor in December 2016, when Elaine Phillips stepped down as mayor to become a state senator.

The three trustees running for re-election are Randall Rosenbaum, Kate Hirsch and Gary Lewandowski. The latter two echoed McNamara in explaining why they were running again, saying that there were several projects and improvements to the village that they wanted to see completed.

The election will be held from noon to 9 p.m. at Village Hall, located at 1 Bonnie Heights Road in Manhasset.

Three men are up for election in Port Washington North: Trustees Steven Cohen and Michael Malatino, and Justice Sheldon Greenbaum.

Cohen has served as a trustee since 2004 and said he wanted to provide more open spaces for village residents to enjoy through projects like the Bay Walk. Efforts to reach Malatino were unavailing.

Greenbaum joined the village as a justice in 2005. Like Cohen, he said his time in office is a way to give back to the village where he has lived since 1977.

“It’s a way to give back to the community … and it’s been a nice, rewarding experience,” he said.

Voting will be conducted at the village office, located at 3 Pleasant Ave., from noon to 9 p.m.

Finally, Baxter Estates has two trustees running for re-election: Douglas Baldwin and Alice Peckelis. Baldwin has served as a trustee since 2005 and has pledged to “keep Baxter Estates a wonderful community.”

Peckelis became a trustee in 2006, one year after she moved to the village. She had previously served two terms as a trustee in the nearby Village of Manorhaven.

In a statement, Peckelis said she decided to run for trustee because “she believes her knowledge of local government garnered through her work experience and many years of government service contributes to the success of the Board.”

She added that she would like to see the village focus on infrastructure improvements, namely paving roads, replacing curbs, reconstructing catch basins and improving street lighting.

Voting will be held from noon to 9 p.m. at the Village Hall, located at 315 Main St.
