Roslyn Estates OKs block party

Roslyn Estates trustees on Monday tentatively approved a request for a resident to host a block party in early October in the vicinity of The Spur.

Village officials said they plan to finalize the approval during the Sept. 14 trustees meeting, following the submission and analysis of a plan detailing the streets that would be closed during the party.

On Monday, the board agreed to an Oct. 4 date for the party, with a make-up date of Oct. 11 in the event of rain.

The resident hosting the party, Allan Mendels, would obtain a permit to close the streets from noon to 6 p.m., though officials said the times may change in the next month.

Trustees said they plan to publicize the party in the village’s monthly newsletter in October.

As part of the approval, Roslyn Estates would not contribute garbage cans or portable toilets during the party, nor would it be responsible for cleaning the streets after the event, trustees said.

Mendels said he does not plan to rent a bouncy castle or hire live entertainment, which would require he submit insurance information to the village.
