Roslyn Harbor is considering several amendments to its village code, including two that would regulate property maintenance and one that would regulate sports courts, according to Newsday.

The sports courts amendment pertains to village code wording; the term “tennis court” used in the village code would be broadened to “sports courts.”

Village code says that tennis courts open at 8 a.m. and may not be lit at night, according to Newsday. If they are next to another property, they must be bordered by a row of conifers.

There will be a public hearing about the sports courts amendment Nov. 27.

Village officials did not respond to requests to discuss the action.

The other amendments would regulate dumpster use and grass maintenance for  properties.

The amendment about dumpsters would limit dumpster use for residents doing small housework projects to 30 days, according to Newsday. Major construction requires a building permit, but smaller work is currently less regulated, leading some dumpsters to stay on property for years, the board said.

The other amendment would institute a 6-inch maximum height requirement for lawn grass.

The grass height maximum would apply to grass visible from the neighboring street, but would not regulate wooded areas, according to Newsday.

The focus on lawn maintenance stems from residents who let their grass grow high, which can attract pesky bugs such as ticks or catch fire, Roslyn Harbor trustees said at a meeting last week, according to Newsday.
