North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Town Council members announced summer road repaving this week, giving many roads in Port Washington, Manhasset and elsewhere much needed attention.
Discussions between Bosworth, council members, the superintendent of the Highway Department and the finance director determined the repaving schedule.
The road repairs are part of a larger effort by the town’s Highway Department to resurface over 65,000 linear feet of road throughout the town. Bosworth described the move as critical to improving town infrastructure and fulfilling parts of the town’s five-year capital plan.
“Our summer road resurfacing schedule is in full swing,” Bosworth said.
Areas to be repaved in District 2 include Albertson-Searingtown’s Grant Avenue, Denton Avenue in New Hyde Park and Apple Tree Lane, Cherry Tree Lane, Flower Lane, Manor Avenue, Park Place, Peachtree Lane, Pinetree Lane and Yale Street in Roslyn Heights.
Within District 3’s Garden City Park, Gould Street, Thorens Avenue, Tulip Place, Atlantic Avenue, Fulton Avenue and Cornelia Avenue will undergo repairs. Meanwhile, West End Avenue and Aladdin Avenue, both residential streets, will see road repairs.
Manhasset, in District 4, will see repaving along Aldershot Lane, Cambridge Lane, Dewet Street, Old Mill Road, Rockcrest Road, Shorehaven Lane, Shoreview Road, Andover Lane, Exeter Lane, Groton Lane, West Shore Road and Homewood Road.
Clausen Place, which runs through North New Hyde Park and Floral Park Center and connects Hillside Avenue and Hillside Boulevard, will be repaved. Willis Avenue, meanwhile, will be repaved in Floral Park. North 5th and 6th Street, also in Floral Park Center, will be repaired.
Both Great Neck’s Winfield Terrace, which is close to the Saddle Rock School, and Broadway, which leads into Great Neck Road, will see some road fixes.
“Road repaving is so critical to quality of life issues in a community, as well as an investment in our future infrastructure,” Lee Seeman, the council member for District 5, said.
“Roads like Winfield Terrace in Great Neck had more patches than a patchwork quilt. I’m sure residents will be very pleased to see these roads newly paved” Seeman added.
As for District 6, which represents Port Washington, residents will see road paving on Bank Street, Carey Street, Hillcrest Road, Chelsea Drive, Colonial Road, Hillcrest Road, Stratford Road, Madison Street, Anchorage Road, Andover Road, Birch Street, Carey Place, Leeds Drive and Levi Place.
The start and finish dates for each location will vary, the town said.
