Thank your Great Neck for great 50th high school reunion

The Island Now

On behalf of the Class of 1961 from the Great Neck North Senior High School, let me publicly thank the entire Great Neck Community for their help in making our 50th Reunion weekend celebration back in our home town a memorable event.

From the first night at the Great Neck Arts Center, with the cooperation of Georgia Vahue and her staff, we were able to house our classes collection of visual art and have it viewed by the almost 150 classmates who attended as well as open the collection to the community. It was such a wonderful experience, and a fine example of why the Great Neck community stands out today.

Converging on the town itself, we flooded the local restaurants and stores to feel our town once again, if merely for the day.

Wherever we went, we were met with friendly ears and open arms. By Saturday night many had arrived at the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s Melville Hall, already rekindling friendships and ready to party. What a fabulous facility to have in the community and so happy to host us in such fine style.

Our compliments especially to Richard Stancatti who guided our group superbly with his food and wine. The incredible view from the dining hall deserves special mention as well.

By the time we arrived at the footsteps of the Great Neck North Senior High School on Sunday morning, for a tour of its famous halls, our group, still going strong was met by Key Club members Ethan Kimiabakhsh and Rona Neman. Their spirited and engaging selves made our memories that much more exciting to relive. They are a fine example of the school system today and we all came away very satisfied by our short attempt to “come home again”.

We sincerely hope your impression of us as a group has left its mark, and we will hopefully be welcomed back for many more celebrations.
