Three people were injured, one seriously, after a car accident in Williston Park Friday night.
Around 10:44 p.m., a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero was traveling south on Willis Avenue approaching Center Street when it left the roadway and crashed into a six-foot-tall black steel fence on the corner of the intersection, bordering a Nassau County sump, police said. The SUV flipped over and landed in the sump, partially submerged in water, according to Newsday.
The driver of the vehicle and one passenger were transported to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. A second passenger suffered serious injuries and was also transported to the hospital for treatment. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, police said.
Police could not identify the occupants or provide an update on their conditions as of Monday morning.
Since the crash Friday night, the village’s Department of Public Works has replaced the more than 10-foot gap in the fence, across the street from Willis Plaza, with chain link fencing.
