TOP Red teams score 2 wins, 1 tie

The Island Now

TOP soccer welcomed new additions Brian Lawrence, Bryan Roach and John Bertuccio.  It was an excellent first game played by the juniors.

After an intensive practice, the juniors showed their skill and team work on the field.  Brian Lawrence scored the first goal for the Red team with an assist by the midfielder Daniel Menendez.

In response, Green team’s midfielder David Cheung passed a beautiful ball to Roach who sent it into the back of the net.

Bertuccio rounded out Green as a defender who kept the team in the game.  But with the solid defense of Brandon and Brian Cisneros, the Red team pushed forward and Christopher Menendez, a versatile striker, scored the second goal.  Not much time was left on the clock.  The Red team held to win the match.

The intermediates also had a tight game with excellent defense from both teams.   The Green team’s Annaliese Jurena, Lucas Mitacchione, Nick Mininson all connected with midfield passing and Ashlyn Jurena finally scored for the Green team.

Petros D’Amico had his usual great goaltending game but also played some terrific defense along with Josh Hom.

The Red team had some spectacular plays with Danny Durso scoring the lone goal.

Rounding out the Red team were Sebastian Pinto, Matthew Lausev, and goalie Daniel Calabrese who made several unbelievable saves.  This was an awesome game played by all the athletes.

During their match, the seniors kept the score low. Both teams had their defense and midfield control the ball.  Offense had to wait for the right opportunities to score.

Charlie Hinz capitalized and scored for the Green team. He was assisted by Mary Glass and Tim Roth, with Justin Durso, Patrick Williams and Adam Strominger as the back defensive support.

The Red team’s David Glass was on his game today and scored his first goal of the season.

To follow up, Debbie Chin was able to take the ball and make a nice chip shot over the goalie that proved to be the winning goal.

The Red team had strong midfield play by Billy Russo, Nicolas Mazariegos, Sammy Duggan, and Justin Almonte who keep the ball and stopped Green from tying the game.

It was a terrific start to the season for all the seniors!
