Two incumbent trustees in the Village of Baxter Estates, Douglas Baldwin and Alice M. Peckelis, are running uncontested in the March 20 elections.
Baldwin, who has lived in the village since 1996, said he decided to run for trustee when a position opened up in 2005.
As for why he is running for re-election, Baldwin said the knowledge of village affairs he has developed over the last 12 years is valued by both other village employees and residents alike.
“Before each election I go door to door, meeting with residents for their direct feedback and input,” he wrote in an email. “And it’s gratifying this year to hear uniformly positive support.”
Baldwin said he did not have any specific goals for the village in his next term other than to continue to work with surrounding villages and local government to “keep Baxter Estates a wonderful community.”
Peckelis joined the Board of Trustees in the fall of 2006 to fill a vacancy. She first ran for trustee in March 2007 and has served on the board ever since.
Efforts to reach Peckelis were unavailing.
With an estimated population of 1,059, according to the U.S. Census, and an area of 0.2 square miles, Baxter Estates is the smallest village in the Port Washington area in both population and area.
