Village of Thomaston purchasing new dump truck

Thomaston village trustees approved the purchase of a new dump truck for about $179,000 on Monday night, replacing one of their two trucks in a move to retain a well-maintained fleet.

Trux Inc. Long Island Freightliner, based in Bohemia, was the lowest of two bidders and offered to have the truck ready within three or four months – right around the start of winter.

Mayor Steven Weinberg said that the village has a “track record” of getting good resale value and, in turn, reinvesting saved dollars toward general maintenance.

“We try to turn them around within five or six years,” Weinberg said, noting that’s when they can get the “highest resale value.”

The trucks are typically used for salting village roads and snow removal.

In unrelated business, Weinberg said the village adopted a new sexual harassment policy modeled after state policy and approved meeting minutes.
