Nassau County police arrested a Westbury man last Friday after an investigation into 19 burglaries of businesses across Nassau County spanning the course of almost a year, two of which occurred in Mineola, police said.

Michael Matthews, 58, was arrested at his home at 1299 Corporate Drive following a police investigation into burglaries that began in March 2017 and the last of which occurred last Wednesday, according to detectives from the burglary pattern squad and third squad.

Matthews allegedly would steal an undisclosed amount of cash after breaking glass doors and entering the businesses, police said.

He allegedly broke into and stole from two Mineola businesses on Feb. 15, Bonaventure Tuxedo on Jericho Turnpike and 2nd Street Gourmet deli on Second Street, police said.

Matthews is charged with six counts of third-degree burglary.

During his arraignment on Saturday, Judge Erica Prager adjourned the case. Matthews was held on $25,000 cash bail or a $50,000 bond.

He is set to appear in court again on Tuesday.
