The Williston Park village board adopted a $6.2 million budget that exceeds the state-mandated 2 percent tax cap on Wednesday.

The budget is a 2.1 percent increase from the 2017-2018 budget and includes a 3 percent tax levy increase.

The board voted to add a local law allowing the village to override the tax cap during an April 18 meeting when the then potential budget was discussed.

Minor changes were made to the budget between the April 18 meeting and Wednesday, but the budget total and tax levy remained the same.

The adopted budget reduced roadwork funding to $90,400, and put the $20,000 toward improving the village website.

The budget includes no changes to the board salaries.

Mayor Paul Ehrbar will receive $14,400 for the year, and the four trustees will each earn $7,150.

This is not the first time the village chose to exceed the two percent tax cap.

Last year was the first time the village adopted a budget within the tax cap in five years.

The Village of Floral Park also chose to exceed the tax cap this year with a tax levy increase of 2.93 percent with the adoption of its $29.88 million budget.

The neighboring Village of Mineola kept its tax levy flat for the third year in a row with the adoption of its $22.7 million budget.
