The Williston Park Department of Public Works will trim the grass at an unoccupied house on Mineola Boulevard, the village board said during a work session before Monday’s meeting.

The house had been occupied by a woman who died about two years ago, building inspector Kerry Collins said.

The property has not been maintained since about Christmas, Collins said.

The grass is about 16 to 18 inches high, he said.

It is one of two properties the village received complaints about. The other, on Sherman Avenue, was recently bought after foreclosure, Collins said.

Collins said he has tried contacting banks and maintenance companies the village had listed for the Mineola Boulevard residence and never got a response.

He also reached out to the county clerk’s office, and Clerk Maureen O’Connell sent over documentation for the village to go through.

Mayor Paul Ehrbar said village workers trimming the grass is a “one shot deal,” and the village will figure out how it wants to proceed.

One possibility is bringing in a landscaper and putting it on the tax bill, Ehrbar said.

It’s not an uncommon issue, Collins said, saying that foreclosures across the North Shore are “rampant.”

“We’re kind of fortunate that we don’t have that many,” he said.

During the meeting the board also unanimously approved a request for a home on Cornwell Avenue to create an in-ground pool.

Vincent and Kathleen Napolitano plan to create a pool no larger than 16 by 28 feet.

It will be a salt water pool with a steel wall, Vincent Napolitano said.

Trustee Kevin Rynne said his only concern is safety, but Napolitano said they will do whatever has to be done in regards to safety measures.

During the meeting Fire Chief John Perro also said the department will hold it’s annual July 4 parade in the village.

The parade will likely step off around 9 a.m., but more information is to follow.

The board also announced there will be a Narcan training session in the village on Aug. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m.
