North Shore residents driving at night should expect lane closures along the Long Island Expressway beginning tonight and continuing through fall, officials said.

The state Department of Transportation said in a statement that lanes from Exit 32 to Little Neck and Exit 37 to Willis Avenue in Roslyn Heights will be closed for maintenance in both directions.

“This proposed project will apply a preventative maintenance treatment to seal cracks in the pavement and on the ramps on Interstate 495 from Queens/Nassau Line to Willis Avenue,” the statement read. “This work helps keep the highway system in a state of good repair.”

Eastbound lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays for the $1.66 million project and westbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Traffic will be rerouted to the service roads during the lane closures, and signage has been placed to alert and reroute drivers.

Work is expected to be completed in the fall, according to the statement.
