The Viscardi Center is accepting nominations for the 2017 Henry Viscardi Achievement Awards.

The international honors, first given in 2013, recognize exemplary leaders within the disability community and their contributions. The awards were created to remember Dr. Henry Viscardi Jr., who wore prosthetic legs and served as a disability adviser to eight U.S. presidents.

“Each year, recipients are talented and dedicated individuals who have touched countless lives around the world,” said John D. Kemp, president and CEO of the Viscardi Center in Albertson. “They are proof that with passion and perseverance, anything can be accomplished.”

Past nominations have included individuals with disabilities who work in academia, health care, government, and nonprofit and corporate sectors.

Former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole and Sherwood D. Goldberg, senior adviser for Asian affairs at the Center for Naval Analysis, will co-chair the awards selection committee.

Nominations must be received by Oct. 20. Recipients will be announced at an event in New York City in December. Visit ViscardiCenter.org to submit a nomination.
