The 56 residents of the Town of North Hempstead who lost their lives in the 9/11 terror attacks will be honored at the annual memorial service in Manhasset on Monday.

The ceremony will take place at 8 a.m. at Mary Jane Davies Green on Plandome Road.

Carole Trottere, a town spokeswoman, said the town has hosted a memorial service since the first anniversary of the attacks in 2002, and the ceremony was moved to Mary Jane Davies Green in 2014 to offer a convenient rain location in Town Hall across the street.

“The ceremony serves to provide all who endured the tragedy of Sept. 11 an opportunity to reflect upon its impact and remember those we lost that day,” town Clerk Wayne Wink said.

Moments of silence will be held at 8:46 and 9:03 a.m. to mark when each of the World Trade Center towers were hit by planes.

Speakers for this year’s memorial ceremony include Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Wink, Long Island Islamic Center President Isma Chaudhry, former Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel and the Rev. Donna Marie Field of the Community Reformed Church in Manhasset with an invocation by Rabbi Anchelle Perl of the Chabad of Mineola and benediction by the Rev. Charles Vogeley of the Church of Our Savior Lutheran in Manhasset.

“During this memorial service, we come together to honor and remember those who lost their lives 16 years ago, including the 56 individuals from our North Hempstead community,” Bosworth said. “Sept. 11 is a day when we need to join together and support each other.”

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano will host a sunset memorial service at the county’s 9/11 Memorial in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7. The names of county residents who died in the attacks will be read.
