North Middle School’s seventh and eighth-grade Spring Concert and Art Show will take place on Wednesday, May 15, at the school, 77 Polo Rd.
Art Exhibit
The Annual Spring Art Exhibit Opening Reception will be held in the lobby of the Daniel J. Tomaselli Auditorium, beginning at 6:30 p.m., prior to the concert. In addition, the Art Exhibit may be viewed on Thursday, May 16, and Friday, May 17, during school hours, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Art Exhibit will showcase works from the school’s varied courses, with a focus on the works created in the most advanced classes: Art Foundations (Art 9), Photography and Art, and Studio Art 8. There will be an eye-catching array of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works.
North Middle art teachers are Elaine Brendel, art department head, Kristin Kirleis, and Sherry Teich.
Concert
The concert, held in the Daniel J. Tomaselli Auditorium, will begin at 7:00 p.m. The theme of this year’s concert is “American Music and American Composers.”
The chorus will perform “The Spirit Of Freedom,” a patriotic medley arranged by Ed Lojeski; “Joshua Fit The Battle!,” a spiritual arranged by Jill Gallina; and “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story,” from the musical Hamilton, arranged by Andy Beck with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Eighth graders will sing “If You’re Out There,” arranged by Mark Brymer with music and lyrics by John Stephens.
The band and orchestra will perform selections by American composers, including Aaron Copland, David Amram, Henry Mancini, Leonard Bernstein, John Philip Sousa, and Brian Wilson.
The band and orchestra are under the direction of Matthew Trinkwald, music department head. The chorus is under the direction of Arielle Murdocco.
