The Children’s Medical Center at NYU Winthrop Hospital will host the 22nd annual “A Cause to Celebrate” fundraiser benefitting the Child Life Program. Honoring Glen Head residents Sam and Vera Jain, the event will take place on Thursday, March 21 at The Garden City Hotel.

The Child Life Program at NYU Winthrop Hospital taps the expertise of certified Child Life specialists who use play and education to improve the understanding among pediatric patients of medical procedures. Specialists also teach relaxation techniques to help young patients cope with illness or surgery as well as provide emotional support for a patient’s entire family.

For the Jain family, being a part of an event that raises essential funds for the Child Life program at NYU Winthrop Hospital is of utmost importance.

“As a parent, I understand how the complexities of a hospital stay can cause confusion for the whole family,” said Vera Jain. “Child Life Specialists are incredibly helpful, stepping in to assist during stressful times when there’s an inability to think straight.”

Both of the Jains immigrated to the United States and are advocates for quality medical programs for all patient populations. In addition to supporting the presence of a Child Life specialist at NYU Winthrop’s Hempstead Pediatric Clinic, the family has made contributions to the emergency medicine program, as well as in support of the hospital’s renowned cardiology program. They share their philanthropy mindset with their three children. What’s more, Sam Jain, the founder and CEO of Fareportal, a travel technology company, spearheaded a coat drive collection among his staff for the benefit of the Hempstead Pediatric Clinic.

“We wanted to be involved with the community — and NYU Winthrop’s Hempstead Pediatric Clinic is an excellent venue through which we can contribute,” said Sam Jain. “As a family of immigrants, the clinic is close to our hearts since it provides care to many underserved immigrant populations.”

NYU Winthrop’s 22nd annual “A Cause to Celebrate” will feature Dueling Pianos — an energetic piano “battle” between two internationally accomplished pianists. The guest audience will serve as the third member of the show, voting for the winner of the musical battle.
