Reader’s Write: O’Brien has shown leadership at MLWD

The Island Now

Manhasset Lakeville Water District Commissioner Donald O’Brien has earned my vote for re-election with his recent actions.

In an era of entrenchment and partisan politics, Commissioner O’Brien demonstrated remarkable leadership during a tumultuous time for the MLWD and the broader community. He reconsidered his original position and ultimately made a motion for the district to remove the radio tower that was installed adjacent to the Munsey Park water tower.

By doing this, Commissioner O’Brien showed a welcome willingness to listen to his constituents’ concerns.

By exploring all alternatives to the tower, Commissioner O’Brien’s efforts resulted in a viable plan to ensure the safety of both first responders and private citizens. His forthright approach to addressing the needs of all stakeholders and his pledge to work with neighboring municipalities and citizens going forward demonstrate that he can be trusted with the responsibilities of his office.

After the motion was passed to remove the radio tower, some neighbors and I attended a follow-up meeting to assess the progress of its removal.  He summed up his approach concisely by stating, “When I say I’m going to do something, I do it.” The MLWD is under contract to remove the tower this week.
