The Village of Old Westbury recently amended a law regarding residents operating noisy machinery in the early morning or late evening.
Village trustees unanimously voted June 19 to ban residents from operating equipment such as cranes, tractors, earth-moving machines and other loud construction machinery in the village except between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, excluding holidays.
Village administrator Brian Ridgway said the amendment is not in response to the actions of residents, but a simple update to the village laws to benefit Old Westbury.
“We’re just cleaning up the language,” Ridgway said. “Periodically we review our codes and when they need to be cleaned up, we do that.”
Ridgway said emergency exceptions can be made with a permit from the Village Mayor Fred Carillo, building inspector or chief of police. Violations will carry a fine between $500 and $10,000, and each day equipment is used will count as a separate offense.
