Old Westbury Gardens will hold its inaugural Garden Days event on June 11, 12, and 13, 2021 at 71 Old Westbury Rd., Old Westbury. This is a ticketed event. Visitors can purchase tickets in advance here (https://www.oldwestburygardens.org/garden-days). Tickets for June 13th are already sold out.
“Old Westbury Gardens is thrilled to be hosting this first-of-its-kind, in-person live event against the backdrop of our elegant and historic Westbury House and grounds,” said Maura McGoldrick-Brush, director of Horticulture at Old Westbury Gardens. “While there are similar well-known annual garden shows in the region, this is the first major garden event of its kind and scale on Long Island. Visitors will have a truly unique experience, learning about and purchasing a wide range of top-quality horticultural materials.”
This first-time event for Old Westbury Gardens will feature an exclusive wide-ranging collection of garden specialty businesses and vendors from across the country, including expert topiary growers from Atlock Farms in New Jersey, lavender product producers from Star Bright Farm in Maryland, designers of workspaces for cooks and gardeners (from greenhouses to cabinetry) for indoor or outdoor spaces from Hoffman & Woodward in Pennsylvania, and creators of nature-inspired jewelry from Janet Mavec, among other vendors.
The setting in Westbury will feature anything a garden enthusiast can imagine: beautiful outdoor seat cushions, antique textiles, botanicals, the most useful homewares from France, garden planters cast from estate originals, modern agricultural items, and more.
As an added bonus, garden book author, Christopher Spitzmiller, will be speaking and signing his new book: Year at Clove Brook Farm: Gardening, Tending Flocks, Keeping Bees, Collecting Antiques, and Entertaining Friends. Tickets for Sunday, June 13th are sold out, but activities for that day include an exclusive private home garden tours in the Locust Valley area. Organizers are hoping to make this an annual event in the future.
Ticketed visitors will be able to view, learn about, and purchase a wide range of rare upscale quality gardening products that include hard-to-find perennials and annuals, unusual exotics, container specialties, decorative garden furniture, urns, statuary, specialty plants, garden ornaments, and antique architectural treasures, among other horticultural curiosities.
This will also be an opportunity for the region’s garden enthusiasts to gather and discover innovative trends in horticulture and ornamental gardening.
One of the businesses participating in the Garden Days event is Pennoyer Newman, LLC, which creates distinctive garden pots that have been cast from historic estate originals. The company is based in Manhattan and has been in the business of casting antique planters for 32 years.
Pennoyer Newman’s mission is to preserve and protect old planters for today’s consumers to enjoy, since so many of the historic garden objects of past centuries have gone to ruin. Pennoyer Newman has worked with Old Westbury Gardens for nearly three decades to restore and preserve the old planters on the grounds of the historic Phipps family estate.
