Column: COVID changes E.W. Fire Department’s holiday plans

Happy Holidays!

Dear Neighbor,

As you know, it has been our long-honored tradition to visit homes in the village on Christmas Eve with Santa Claus.

We usually visit over 100 homes that night. Due to current COVID-19 conditions, it is regrettably not safe for us to enter home after home, putting our volunteers and your families at risk.

In order to keep the holiday tradition alive as much as we can, Santa and your local volunteer firemen will be driving around the village with our lights and sirens on for all of our families to enjoy on select Thursday evenings after 8 p.m.

Days will be announced in advance.  Please keep an ear out for our fire trucks and come wave hello to Santa.

We cannot collect toys this year as the organizations we service cannot accept outside donations this year.

However, they have asked us to collect non-perishable foods, diapers and wipes and gift cards to Target, Walmart, Amazon, Stop and Shop and the like in order to help those less fortunate than us.

Please consider dropping off your donation at the Firehouse any Thursday after 8 p/m.

Thank you, and from all of your Neighbors at the East Williston Fire Department, Happy Holidays!    Stay safe!
