From the desk of Superintendent Elaine Kanas: EW board seeks input for 5-year plan

The Island Now

The second week of school continued to be full of learning and activity, and also saw Meet the Teacher Nights at North Side and at Willets Road.  I enjoyed the opportunity to meet and say hello to many of you those evenings.

Similar to previous years’ Plans for Results, district and building administrators, curriculum associates,  directors and instructional staff have been busy completing an updated Goals Plan for 2012-13.   These will be shared at an upcoming board meeting and will be posted on our district website soon. I will keep you updated as to our progress meeting these goals and share in depth with you what I believe are some truly exciting educational initiatives for your children/our students.

Long Range Planning

At the Sept. 5 Work Session the board discussed the concept of Strategic Planning. Strategic Planning would involve all members of the community coming together to present input and ideas to help formulate a five-year plan for our district with a specific timetable for steps to be taken each year to accomplish the long term goals.  A strategic plan is an excellent resource to support short- and long-range budget planning to meet district goals within fiscal constraints.    The Board will consider the adoption of a strategic plan at the September Board meeting.

Flea Market/Fall Cleaning

The PTOs at our three schools lend so much support to our school programs and all their efforts are so appreciated.  As you may know, on Saturday, Sept.29 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. the Willets Road PTO is hosting a Trash and Treasures Yard Sale to benefit the middle school.  In addition to supporting one of our schools, the event is a great opportunity to do something with the results of your fall cleaning of garages, basements, attics, etc.  Everyone is invited to rent a table for just $50 (which benefits the Willets Road PTO) and then be their own vendor and collect the proceeds from their own sales.
