Readers Write: Opposing abortion is not opposing women

The Island Now

Under “Readers Write,” there is an article entitled “Women’s rights should not be limited,” in which Adam Haber, the Democrat New York State Senatorial candidate, states, “All or nothing may not always be good for government, but when it comes to Women’s Equality, I want it all, and I am proud of it.”

I have a response which I would address to all women, and men for that matter, in my senatorial district:  Don’t be duped by the term “women’s right to choose.”

Sounds so innocuous and friendly. What hogwash!

Of course, a woman’s rights to equal pay for equal work is something to be fought for relentlessly.

However, women would do well to recall that the belief that “all human life is precious and needs to be protected” – has served American women well.

The opposite view has brought, at the very least, untold grief (both physically and emotionally) upon the women it pretends to protect.

It is noble to speak up vehemently against any bills that strive to lump these two elements (women’s right to fair treatment vs. the right to end a life) together as “all or nothing.”

It is equally preposterous to label those who are against the taking of a life as being engaged in a “war on women.”

That is why my vote in November will go to re-elect Sen. Jack Martins who won’t err in this regard.
