READERS WRITE: Plaza mayor oblivious to prostitution

The Island Now

The March 7 Great Neck News story of the prostitution bust on Bond Street in rapidly deteriorating Great Neck Plaza, couldn’t be more ironic. You just can’t make this stuff up.

The Plaza’s full-time mayor, Jean Celender, who last year with her fearless trustees, spearheaded new and improved regulations for massage parlors, has embarrassingly acknowledged that a prostitution bust occurred at her favorite hair salon, albeit in a basement room.

The salon owner who admits to being “naïve” (his word) acknowledged that guys were walking in his front door, in apparent full view of himself and no doubt Her Honor when she was there, to go to a basement room he sublet to a “masseuse,” but he couldn’t imagine “this was going on in my place” (his words).

Being “naïve” is one thing, but being oblivious to the obvious makes him culpable and stupid.

So while Her Honor was upstairs getting a wash and blow for her next photo-op, in the basement, below her chair, was a guy who was also…uh, getting coifed.
