Police are seeking similar culprits in a pair of armed robberies in a three-day period at two banks about three miles apart.

The first happened around 9:12 a.m. Dec. 17, police said, when a man in his 20s showed a silver handgun at the TD Bank at 110 Hillside Ave. and demanded money.

He then ran south on N. 2nd Avenue with an unknown amount of cash.

Five or six employees were in the bank during the robbery, police said, but no one was hurt.

The second came at 9:05 a.m. Dec. 19 in Garden City Park, when police say a similar suspect brandished a silver handgun at the Wells Fargo Bank at 2499 Jericho Turnpike.

The man demanded the teller put an unknown amount of cash in his black drawstring bag and then ran north on Herricks Road, police said.

Six employees and two customers were in the bank at the time, police said, but no one was hurt.

While police declined to say whether the robberies were related, the suspect in both cases is described as a black man wearing a dark grey hooded nylon sweatshirt, a ski mask and black gloves.

In the Garden City Park robbery, police said the suspect was wearing light pants and dark sneakers.

Police ask anyone with information about the crimes to leave anonymous tips by calling 1-800-244-8477.
