Readers Write: An open letter to Jean Celender

The Island Now

Mayor Celender, I live on Welwyn Road and I have some questions for you:

Where is the resident parking garage that you promised us — is it in the hands of the “if you want nothing done we’re here to serve you” committee, or was this garage just a pretense to make County Executive Laura Curran think that you actually care about the quality of life of your constituents?

When was the last time you tried to drive, shop or park on Welwyn Road, or do you purposely avoid this area?

Are you waiting for someone to get killed by one of the huge number of daily buses that you routed onto Welwyn Road before you finally re-route them?

Why does the village issue a conditional use permit to Shop Delight, which the store owner has no intention of complying with and the village has no intention of enforcing?

Why are the parking spaces on Welwyn Road reserved for Shop Delight’s non-resident employees for more than 12 hours a day, preventing me from parking on the street where I live?

When was the last time code enforcement ticketed the multitude of illegally parked Shop Delight employees’ cars?

When will you deal with the double parked cars in front of Shop Delight that blow horns incessantly and block up the street so traffic can’t get through?

Since all of Welwyn Road is used as a personal delivery zone for Shop Delight’s suppliers, why don’t you put up signs declaring it as such?

Better yet, why not change the name of Welwyn Road to “Shop Delight Avenue”?

And finally, will you ever come down from your ego trip and actually serve your constituents’ needs?
