Readers Write: Answers needed about Cuomo proposals

The Island Now

I attended a North Shore action group meeting last week and was impressed how many residents are giving their time and effort to solve the problems here on Long Island.

Gov. Cuomo spokesman Imran Ansari came and gave a long talk on all the billions of dollars and future accomplishments they hope to achieve in the near future for New York state.

While it all sounds good at first, Gov. Cuomo should have had a team to sort out the pros and cons of certain projects.

Take for instance elections. In order to get more people to vote, the idea is to allow thousands to register on Election Day.

Who thought that up without thinking of the most fundamental rules applying to a voter? How can a poll worker check on whether the person is a U.S. citizen?

Does the person reside in the district?

Is the person of age, etc. etc. Their name will not be in the poll books so they would have to be sent to the County Court for a judge to decide. How can they check on such short notice?

Yes, it is important for people to get out and vote, but only if they are of legal age, reside in the district and most important be a U.S. citizen. It must be done legally in order to prevent voter fraud.

Taxes was another issue brought especially how it would affect senior incomes, to which Mr. Ansari could not answer.

He assured us that he would take back to Gov. Cuomo our concerns but it seems to me a little more thought on such important changes and spending billions, would be a big help before presenting them to the public.

As Mr. Ansari did not take notes or record the meeting one can only hope that he has a good memory.
