Readers Write: Assembly district owes thanks to Schimel

The Island Now

I wish to commend and add my voice to Eleanor and Chris Lange, Charlotte and David Sear on their inspiring letter regarding our 16th Assemblywoman, Michelle Schimel.

Wholeheartedly, I agree that the recognition of Assemblywoman Schimel is well deserved.

She can be categorized as inspirational in word and deed.

Since first being elected as town clerk of North Hempstead in 1999 and then during her eight-year tenure as Assemblywoman, Michelle Schimel has been an outstanding legislator who “took a very personal interest in each and every resident. Those of us who had the privilege of working closely with the Assemblywoman knew her for her infinite blend of humor mixed with focusing on issues important to all our society. We knew how fortunate we were to be a constituent.”

The Lange/Sear letter mentions the 66 “Schimel” bills that now exist in the New York State Legislature due to “her energy and commitment to her constituents was exceptional. She went beyond the call of duty.”

The list of her accomplishments are lengthy.

She has fervently served our district intelligently and honorably.

The words mentioned in the Lange/Sear letter such as “honesty” and “integrity” and “work ethic,” to describe Assemblywoman Schimel are completely accurate.

Her passion is exemplary.

She has tirelessly demonstrated what is right and just about critical issues that concern all humanity.

Her legacy will be a source of pride for everyone.

The Lange/Sear letter is to be admired for their taking the initiative to acknowledge Assemblywoman Schimel who will be missed but has earned the respect of all her constituents… including me.
