Readers Write: Bible makes clear Israel’s right to Jerusalem

The Island Now

The world is over occupied with Jerusalem.

The United Nations Security Council, addressing the Egyptian-proposed resolution 2334, which the Americans from Obama and Kerry helped to draft in secret meetings with the Palestinians was an American betrayal of their good friends and allies in Israel.

The American administration will deny it in order to save face.

But the incontrovertible evidence proves 100% that the hand of Obama helped to write the anti-Israel resolution.

In gematria, the numbers 2334 add up to 12, significantly the exact number of the ancient tribes of Israel.

It is time to give the Obama-Kerry gang a brief lesson in Bible study.

1. The name Jerusalem appears 750 times in the Hebrew Bible.

2. It appears 146 times in the Christian New Testament

3. It does not appear anywhere in the Muslim Koran.

4. It appears as the name Zion 206 times in the Hebrew Bible

5. It appears more than 4000 times in Rabbinic and Talmudic literature

6. It appears hundreds of times in the Hebrew daily prayerbook, the siddur.

7. Absolutely nowhere does it appear in Muslim religious literature.

Jerusalem was conquered from the Jebusites about the year 1,000 BCE by King David who made it his royal capital.

Following David’s death his son Solomon became king and built the first Holy Temple to the One True God of Israel on Mount Moriah, the holy place where Abraham was commanded by God to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice.

Three thousand years before the foot of a Christian or a Muslim touched the soil of Jerusalem, it was the sacred city and only place of worship for the Jewish nation.

Destroyed by the armies of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, in 586 BCE, the Jews were driven into captivity and exile. And there they wept when they remembered Zion.

I suggest that the Obama-Kerry gang open up their bibles and refer to chapter 137 in the Book of Psalms. The Jewish captives wrote this song:

“By the rivers of Babylon we sat and cried as we remembered Jerusalem. We hung our harps on the willow trees along the rivers. There, the people who captured us made us sing and play happy songs upon our harps. ‘Sing Jerusalem’s songs for us’ they commanded.

We answered ‘how can we sing God’s songs in an alien land?’

If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill. Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you; if I do not raise Jerusalem’s memory up above my greatest joy.

O God, remember the day of Jerusalem’s destruction; punish the wicked who say ‘Destroy! Destroy it completely!’

O wicked people, soon you will be captured; praised is the one who will punish you the same way you treated us. Praised be the one who will destroy your offspring against the rock”

We mourned for the destruction by the Babylonians in 586 BCE and years later by the armies of Rome in 70 CE. In our religious tradition we recall the destruction of our holy temples on a Fast day of the 9th of the Hebrew month of Av.

It is told that one day the Emperor Napoleon was passing a synagogue in Paris and he heard the weeping and wailing of the Jewish congregants .

He asked the meaning of it. One of his adjutants explained, “Your Majesty, it is the cries of the Jews who mourn for the destruction of their holy temple in Jerusalem..”

And Emperor Napoleon replied “A people who remember their holy city for two thousand years will be privileged to return and to rebuild it”

And Mr , Obama and Mr. Kerry, we did indeed return beginning in 1882 and we began the rebuilding of Mother Jerusalem.

In 1948 after our independence from the British Mandate, Jerusalem was invaded by the mighty forces of the Jordanian Legion.

They occupied East Jerusalem which contained all of our holy sites, in particular, our Western Wall, the last remaining wall of Herod’s rebuilt temple. For nineteen years the eastern part of the city of Jerusalem was in Arab hands and Jews were denied access to their holy places.

The ancient synagogues were burned down by the Jordanians in an effort to demolish all traces of Judaism in the Old City.

But in a miraculous victory of the Six Day War in 1967, the brave soldiers of Israel captured the Old City and eastern Jerusalem and it was united with the Jewish occupied western part of the city.

Jerusalem was now a united city under Israeli control.

And whether you like it or not, Mr. Obama and Mr. Kerry, it will always be Jewish Jerusalem, capital of our sovereign nation. We shall never negotiate its division.

And if it means that the Palestinians will not make peace with us, so be it. The status quo can remain.

But Jerusalem will never again be an Arab city.

So I suggest to you and to your associates to review the thousands of references in Scripture declaring Jewish ownership of Jerusalem.

Your proposed legacy to enforce your will upon us will fail.

The God of Israel who has watched over us and who gave to Abraham and his children the land of Israel, will continue to inspire Israel’s modern Maccabees to destroy our enemies and to preserve the sanctity and holiness of Jerusalem where all people of goodwill can worship freely in their synagogues, churches and mosques.

The ancient cry “L’shana ha ba’a b’Yerushalayim”… next year in Jerusalem has been fulfilled. We are here and here we shall remain for all eternity.

It is God’s will in the Bible that you read.
