Readers Write: Coronavirus and face masks

The Island Now
The Coronavirus is traveling worldwide and many have become sick and have died. This scare has many forced to buy face masks to hopefully to protect the many from coming down with the Coronavirus.
These masks are relatively cheap, but there are those seeking to make a profit off this disease at the expense of those who are worried. A box of 20 some are charging $120.00 and some, I have heard, have been selling one for $15.
This I find most appalling. In addition, there are a number of American-Asian eateries and businesses that are being avoided because of this disease, which I find sad and unfounded.
Let me also add the fact the flu is proving more dangerous this year. According to the news, 26 million people have come down with the flu and more than 14,000 have died nationwide, including many children, which should be a far greater concern for many.
It is reported that it is not too late to get a flu shot and that can prevent the spread to others. My wife and I are senior citizens and have gotten our flu shot in September at Wallgreens in Glen Oaks Village from caring and dedicated personal there and are glad we did. More people should get this flu shot. It could help stop the spread. So let’s use common sense over these dangerous diseases. Let’s be well.
