Readers Write: Democrats can win if their voters show up

The Island Now

It can happen here if we don’t turn out to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

It’s an ‘off year’ election while anger with the President and Congress could be a disincentive to vote. Please don’t let that happen.

For Town of North Hempstead Supervisor and District 10 Nassau County Legislature, Republicans have put up candidates with no prior governmental service at any level.

I have attended several debates where the Republican candidates offer little more than broad brush attacks on corruption yet seem to forget they, Republicans, have more than than own share in Albany, Nassau and Suffolk.

Judy Bosworth for town supervisor and Ellen Birnbaum are the clear choices based on proven track records during the almost four years in their respective positions.

Their opponents, one a lawyer touting his litigation successes while declaring he won’t be “bullied” if he’s in the Legislature while the Detective/Narcotics Officer cites Rudy Giuliani as his role model for ‘leadership’ for town supervisor.

Both use language that seem to send ‘clues’ reminiscent of the  viewpoints emanating from the Oval Office.

For Nassau County supervisor, I will acknowledge that Laura Curran, while espousing positions on the issues with which I agree, will probably have a longer learning curve that her opponent who has broader experience.

But, he has never clearly and loudly disavowed Trump nor been able to shake the ‘waffling’ he offered on the Skelos and son corruption scandal. His position on turning over the assessment function to the ‘three towns’ is a non-starter and deal breaker. I’m for Laura Curran.

Friends and neighbors, turnout for Primary day in September was very, very low. Turnout at the debates have been noticeably light. Please, please vote on Tuesday, Nov. 7
