Readers Write: Democrats trying to save – not destroy – our government

The Island Now

Gayle Palmer’s letter “Democrats threaten to destroy our government” (Oct. 12) was to many the height of brilliance. Many agree that if the Democrats won the election, it would destroy our country. She believes that her facts are incontrovertible. She fears that the 110-page Communist Manifesto is the policy of the Democratic Party. Thank goodness Trump is so close to Putin. You know, he’s the guy who heads the Russian government. Anyone who goes against him can die. No wonder that Trump envies him. And how great is it that we have a Supreme Court that will now apparently pride itself on going back in its rulings to pre-Civil War days.

Hey, Ms. Palmer, is John Wilkes Booth one of your heroes? And why did President Lincoln have to free the slaves? In a capitalist society, everyone knows that free labor increases corporate profits.

Who wants majority rule? Let’s take a look at a state like Wyoming, a state that has the highest rate of traffic fatalities in the country, ranks second in the highest rate of fatal occupational injuries, has the lowest ranking for their quality and patient safety environment, ranks among the worst states for auto safety laws, ranks No. 1 for gun deaths, ranks as the second worst state when it comes to energy efficiency and they are the highest energy-consuming state, ranks quite high for drug overdose mortality rate per capita and is the most expensive state to own a car. And their population is 578,000, the least populated state in the United States. How does that compare to New York’s 19.5 million? I guess having 3 percent of New York’s population rightfully supports the one-person one-vote rule. That’s being facetious. Majority rules? Ain’t good for them. Ain’t good for Republicans. At least they have seven national parks, including Yellowstone. Perhaps living in Wyoming would be more to Ms. Palmer’s liking.

Why should the residents of Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico have the right to vote? According to the Constitution, they are not citizens of the United States. You can look it up, that is, if you believe in facts. It fits in with Trump’s facts. If their citizens would be allowed to vote, the majority would probably vote Democratic. Good thing we’re a democracy.

And, thank God for the filibuster. It allows the minority, not only in Congress but also the average person, to express their opinions, especially in local newspapers. Yes, Ms. Palmer, the world is really flat. Be careful. You might fall off, but this warning might be too late.

I am also looking forward to reading the 110-page policy that is on Joe Biden’s website. In fact, Ms. Palmer stated that it is the policy of Bernie Sanders. One thought just crossed my mind. Have we ever seen Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders together in the same picture? Could they really be one and the same person? We all know that John McCain would never have gotten along with that communist, Bernie. I guess even he was fooled.

And, it’s a fact that BLM and Antifa are terrorist groups. Why else would President Trump keep repeating that message? Black lives really do matter. We do give them the right to fight for our country and unfortunately, we provide many with another right, the right to last rites. As for Antifa, which stands for anti-fascist, let’s first define the term fascist. It is government suppression of individual freedom intended to mean oppressive, intolerant, chauvinist, genocidal, dictatorial or aggressive. It sure seems like anti-fascism is what the United States has always stood for. As for fascism, it sure sounds like the policy that Trump practices. Instead of “Hail to the Chief,” he probably prefers the chant of “Heil”.

As far as the FBI and the CIA, we all know they were two groups established by Obama to downplay the Russian collusion hoax perpetrated by the Democrats. Russia is our country’s best friend. Trump even has Putin on his speed dial. Did you know that one of Trump’s illegitimate sons is named Vladimir? So many hoaxes. Who can you believe?

In conclusion, it’s good to know that in our great country during these trying times, we have more than enough psychiatrists to deal with those whose minds have ceased to function properly. I guess constant repetition of garbage thrown our way instead of being thrown out is the major cause of such illness. As Ms. Palmer is certain to agree, thank God Trump is here to rescue us. Let’s hear it for Covid-19. That sure is a number to count on. Isn’t 19 a more satisfying number than 215,000 plus? Who needs a reminder of death? This is Trump’s America. There’s more to come.

Good night Ms. Palmer, wherever your mind is. Sleep and please keep your thoughts to yourself. From a bottom-line point of view, those thoughts represent ignorance and stupidity. No wonder Trump has targeted that vast market. Enough! It’s time to get back to sanity.
